Initial versions of XOMBO Platform will be distributed as VMware Virtual Machines. This innovative product allows us to ship fully-configured web servers in a virtual environment for platform-independent testing. Once XOMBO Platform is fully tested in our spec VMware deployment, additional installation options will be considered for official support. Until then, the alternative is to manually configure a server with an SVN copy of the source code. This will ensure the highest quality testing and support for the chosen deployment OS.
In addition, VMware distribution will allow developers to quickly begin developing their own XOMBO Platform applications without the overhead of server configuration and deployment requirements. Finally, XOMBO can offer application hosting service to our 3rd-party application developers with minimal planning and infrastructure requirements on their part.
The VMware products chosen for deployment, available for free on Macintosh, Linux, and Windows, can be downloaded through through VMware. This means developers on Linux, Macintosh, and Windows will be able to get started with XOMBO Platform very quickly with no additional need for expensive hardware or software. VMware Server Virtual Machines are compatible with VMware Server for Linux & Windows; VMware Player for Linux, Windows, & Macintosh; VMware Fusion for Macintosh; and VMware ESX/ESXi for enterprise deployments.
